Information Needs and Information Seeking Behaviour of Faculty Members of Science & Technology, G.B. Nagar District: A Study

Abstract: The progress of modern society depends a great deal, upon the provision of the right kind of information in the light form at the right time. As information is valuable, it must be put to proper use. In order to serve the users efficiently and effectively, one must ascertain the needs of users in terms of information requirement. Information is a power full instrument in society and plays a significant role in proving the quality of lode of individual. An information source serves the information needs of various kind of users. Text/handbook, encyclopedia, periodicals, dictionaries are prefer by majority of the user and hence they are in the upper hand as the source of reading and reference material. Day by day at large extant users are making use of electronic source of information for acquiring latest information. The users prefer to visit other libraries in addition to the libraries of specific subject libraries and suggested networking should be among local, university, state level, public, subject, national libraries, government libraries , which is indispensable for a fruitful research.
