Provision of Information Resources and facilities in Agriculture University Libraries in Nigeria: A Panacea for Transforming Agricultural Research by academic staffs for Sustainable National Development: A Study of three Agriculture University Libraries in Nigeria.

This study evaluated the information resources and facilities in agriculture university libraries by academic staff in Federal University Agriculture Makurdi, Federal University, Michael Okpara University Agriculture Abia and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.

The study also investigated the usage of these resources, constraints in accessing the information resources. The main objective of the study was to explore the provision of information resources and facilities for easy access and utilization of agricultural information in Nigeria by academic staff using the libraries. A quantitative method was adopted. Random sampling strategy was used; methods of data collection included questionnaire, and observation. While questionnaires were administered to users and university librarians’ observation of the activities of library users were also used to collect data where questionnaire did not covered. Major findings testify that, the current agricultural information available, accessible and utilized is insufficient and agricultural information was inadequate in agriculture university libraries in Nigeria. Current information resources particularly e-journals, e-books, databases, were the information needs. The study recommended the improvement of the existing information resources and facilities for the user’s information needs and where possible. Subscriptions of offline databases such as, E-Granary to access agricultural information offline; overcoming challenges by focused library management; university authority, TETFund should look in to the possible area of income sources and funding the library beyond annual budget like consultancy services, printing, binding, publishing, donations from philanthropists and employment of LIS professionals  in order to assist the users to access and utilization of agricultural information; repackaging agricultural information; and dissemination of information to users.
