Author(s):  Dr. HD Gopal

Abstract - A library is a collection of resources, such as books, magazines, newspapers, films, maps, manuscripts, and digital media, organized and maintained for use, often by the public or a specific community. Libraries are places of knowledge, learning, and community engagement, offering access to information, education, and cultural resources. Library and Information Science are essential for the development of a society. It helps in a human's overall personality development and quality of life. It also helps in the preservation and conservation of the cultural heritage of a country. The information as a resource is very crucial for the development of a country. The libraries are responsible for socio-economic development. Nowadays, the progress of a country is measured based on “information rich” or “information poor”. LIS can also be seen as integrating the two fields library science and information science, which were separate at one point.
